All Progress Software Evaluation licenses have a specific expiration date listed within the Progress configuration file.

This expiration date is based off of the original product installation.
Licensed products either do not have a an expiration date or have an Expiration Date that was agreed when the license was purchased.

For example,
A licensed Progress product will display "NONE" in the "Expiration Date" field when a perpetual license was purchased,
Whereas an evaluation license will display the specific date when the evaluation period will end. The evaluation period is typically 30 days from the install date.

To determine the "Expiration Date", you will need to review the progress.cfg file with the showcfg executable. Refer to Article: For further information on expired licenses refer to Article:
To inquire about purchasing a License or extending the Evaluation period:    To update an Evaluation License to a Commercial release:

Since OpenEdge 10.1A the License Update tool can be used to replace the product evaluation license to a commercial release for the same product with the new set of serial numbers and control codes provided. Since OpenEdge 10.2B a better method is to use the Downloadable License Configuration File:

In 2017 the ESD site was enhanced to provide a Downloadable License Configuration File in response to customer's asking to not have to install when upgrading existing Evaluation installs to Full licenses or when updating existing installed licenses with new Expiry Date or user counts.

The ability to create and download a progress.cfg file has been added to the Customer Self-Service Portal.

You can select the licenses you are looking for from previous orders and combine them together for a particular machine and version combination.

When obtaining the software product installation kits from the Progress Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) system, Customers now have the option of using a self-service portal to generate and download license configuration (.cfg) files based on either:
  1. A subset of products in a single License Addendum (“green sheet”)
  2. A combination of products across multiple License Addendums.
A license configuration file can then be added to a previously-installed product image without the need for a re-install. This feature is supported for OpenEdge 10.2B and later.
