OpenEdge offers free Evaluation, Development Products and Deployment Components.

I.  Free OpenEdge Evaluation Kit

Progress OpenEdge Evaluation licenses can be used either:

1. In the Cloud using Progress Arcade, 
2. On-premises by downloading the OpenEdge Evaluation Kit. 

Components included in the current OpenEdge Evaluation Kit:

• Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge (Windows only; formerly OpenEdge Architect)
• OpenEdge Personal RDBMS
• OpenEdge Development Server (Classic Appserver)
• Progress Pacific Application Server for Development
• OpenEdge Explorer (for managing RDBMS and AppServers)
• OpenEdge BPM Studio (for Business Process Modeling and Development)
• OpenEdge Business Process Server for Development
• OpenEdge GUI Controls
• Trial copy of Telerik Winforms Controls

II.  Free OpenEdge Developers Kit (Classroom Edition)

Start building and testing openedge applications free of charge with a package of OpenEdge application development tools:

• Personal Database
• Progress Developer Studio

The OpenEdge Developers Kit is available on the Progress Website:

III. Free Deployment Components.

For more flexibility when deploying Progress applications, the following executables for all currently supported platforms and CPU types are available.

Free Deployment Component downloads can be obtained from the Progress Software Electronic Software Download (ESD) for licenses under maintenance. If the Deployment downloads are not available in the ESD Center or any questions arise on existing Product Licenses, please contact your Progress Sales Representative:

1. Log in with your ProgressID. If you are not already a member of the Progress community, follow the "Register" link to create a new account.
2. SOFTWARE : PRODUCT LIST > Progress OpenEdge > Progress OpenEdge <version>
3. Specific stand-alone deployment components are available for download at no additional cost. Select the deployment components for the install version needed then download the product for the required and operation system platform. 
4. Take note of the Serial Number and Control Codes for the required platform; they will be needed during product installation and are not included in the download bundle.

Available Free Deployment Components

Progress OpenEdge Business Process Modeler

In order to turn your model into something that can be executed, you will need to make use of Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge. Any model that you create with the Progress OpenEdge Process Modeler can be seamlessly imported into Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge. To execute your process model in a production environment you will need to acquire the Progress OpenEdge Business Process Server.

Progress OpenEdge JMS Adapter

To use messaging with Aurea SonicMQ or with any other JMS-compliant vendor while also using Progress Application Server (PASOE) OpenEdge version 11.5.1 through 11.7.x
This includes the OpenEdge NameServer, oemessaging.zip file and a readme.txt for configuration/install details to enable the OpenEdge JMS adapter.

Adapter for Sonic ESB

When you need your Adapter to be installed on a different machine and or Operating System than your OpenEdge Application Server Enterprise product, therefore enabling you to create n-tier configuration across multiple operating systems.

The Adapter for Sonic ESB also has the notion of a Domain Install. This type of install configures a Sonic Domain Manager to be able to configure the Adapter for Sonic ESB when the Domain Manager is on a different system than your OpenEdge Application Server.

AppServer Internet Adapter (AIA)

The AIA implements privacy, data integrity and tunneling of data between Progress 4GL clients, including WebClient and AppServers through firewalls. It allows users to build protection and security into client/AppServer communications accross n-tier architectures.

Mobile/REST Management Agent

When Mobile and REST web applications are deployed and running on a different machine than the one hosting the AppServer broker/agents. You can download and install this component in order to remotely deploy, administer, and monitor Mobile and REST web applications using standard OpenEdge administration tools.

Web Services Adapter (WSA)    

When you need the WSA component to be deployed on a different machine and or Operating System than your OpenEdge Application Server Enterprise product (AppServer broker/agents), therefore enabling you to create n-tier configuration across multiple operating systems.

WebSpeed Messenger

When the WebSpeed Messenger needs to be deployed on a different machine and or Operating System than your WebSpeed Transaction Server (WebSpeed Broker, and associated WebSpeed Agents), to provide n-tier communication links between the Web server and the WebSpeed Transaction Server

Progress WebClient    

The OpenEdge WebClient is an ABL GUI client that lets you deploy OpenEdge applications remotely over the Web, intranet, extranet, WAN or LAN on Supported Windows platforms

Progress NameServer

The Progress NameServer directs client requests to available AppServers, WebSpeed Transaction Servers, SonicMQ Adapters, which could reside on different machines depending on your n-tier configuration. 

SQL Client Access    

OpenEdge database supports configurations where the OpenEdge SQL Client Access component can be installed on a different machine than the database server.

i18N Components:

1.   Supplemental PROMSGS

• Translations of PROMSGS, empty databases and language-specific files to supplement the default languages that are included in OpenEdge 11.7 products. 
• New messages created for OpenEdge 11.7 have not been translated 
• There are no PROMSGS translations for Arabic, Greek and Persian languages
