The installation of the SQL CLIENT ACCESS deployment product is carried out the same way as other Progress OpenEdge product by executing the setup.exe/proinst from the downloaded install media with the appropriate elevated local administrator permissions.
Points to bear in mind:
- SQL Client Access licenses are only available in the Download Center as a free product for the same version(s) for which OpenEdge 10 and later licenses have been purchased.
- The Serial Number and Control Codes needed for the install routine are found at the top of the SQL Client Access download page in chart form, not in the license addendum as with other Progress products.
- Unless a "Complete installation" is selected during the install routine, Optional Components such as ODBC drivers will not be installed.
- If adding the SQL Client Access license to an existing OpenEdge install of the same version:
- The Service Pack/Update will need to be re-installed post SQL Client Access install.
- On Windows it is imperative (on UNIX recommended) to install SQL Client Access to the same installation (DLC) directory as the existing OpenEdge version.
- There is no Service Pack/Update for the SQL Client Access itself. When this is the only license installed, a Service Pack/Update from the same version can be installed, which would typically only be required if there are driver updates.
