August Game - SUDOKU

If you've never played Sudoku before...do. If you're a puzzles person, this is the best number puzzle I know. Some boards make me feel clever, other boards make me feel like an idiot, and yet more prove me completely inept.

What kinds of boards will these be for you?

HOW TO PLAY:

  • Like this post to follow it
  • On Mondays throughout August, you will receive a Sudoku board, upscaling in difficulty every week.
  • Complete your puzzle and email it to Community@progress.com
  • Correct puzzles are worth:
    • Week one, 3 points
    • Week two, 5 points
    • Week three, 7 points
    • Week four, 10 points.

NO AI! That's cheating! Honor system only but, let's be real, is a Community game really worth your mortal soul?

SUDOKU INSTRUCTIONS:

  • The Grid: A standard board has 81 total squares split into nine smaller 3x3 blocks.
  • No Repeats: Each number from 1 to 9 can only show up once in each horizontal row, vertical column, and 3x3 box.
  • Givens: Puzzles start with some numbers already placed for you. More pre-filled numbers mean an easier puzzle.
  • Basic Strategy to Solve
    • Scan Rows and Columns: Look for rows or columns that are missing only one or two numbers. Check what numbers are already in that line or 3x3 box to find the missing choice.
    • Cross-Hatching: Pick a number (like the number 5) and trace rows and columns where it already exists to see where it can fit in an empty 3x3 block.
    • Look for Singles: If a box or line has 8 out of 9 numbers filled in, the last empty spot must be the final missing number.

Week one's puzzle is in the Comments. You'll have a picture version and an attached Excel document, if you prefer.

GOOD LUCK!

2026_08 - Sudoku

  • Nichol Goldstein (Progress)

Congratulations to all those who completed Super Evil Boss Mode! Calling out @Chris Maden (Progress Software), @Richard Auger (https://pro2col.com/), @Patrice Perrot (PROGINOV), @Jochem Bökkers (Enso DX) and @Sabrie Nedzhip (Enso DX)

Man! It must have been so hard to have whittled so many people out - but I appreciate all your hard work! I'm issuing 3 points to everyone who gave it a shot but couldn't quite tame the beast! *Sprinkles 3 extra points on everyone*

See you on Monday for a brand new game we've never played before! 👀

A dog wearing a watermelon for a helmet. The caption says, "When you start a new game at level 1 and have to equip yourself with whatever you find..."

Hmm... on second thought - is this too hard? If yes, I'll give hints. 😎

      • Jochem Bökkers (Enso DX)

Not sure if I was rusty or if it was difficult, but i sent my answer

    • Nichol Goldstein (Progress)

Ok! You got me - here's an excel with hints for those who said that would be helpful!

Meme of a knight raising his hands like, "Whoa now." The meme caption says, "When someone asks how to lower the game difficulty..." And the night says, "We don't do that here."Except we do.

I will give you credit where credit it due!

But I will also have mercy.

A videogame mecha-angel with a halo looking merciful and extending a helping hand. She is backlit by the sunrise, and it is impressive, even though I don't know what game this is from...

  • Sabrie Nedzhip (Enso DX)

I tried to do it without using the hint but ... I had it wrong 2 times. So, I am going to use the hint 😁

@Nichol Goldstein (Progress), please wait for meeee - almost there

  • Nichol Goldstein (Progress)

OKAY! Week two, here we go! No hints this time. It should be simpler~

If you're looking at this over email, pop over to the post and find an image and an excel sheet (2nd tab). You can pick what format you like best~
