Compatibility of DataDirect ODBC Libraries with IBM Open XL C/C++ for AIX on AIX 7.3

We are currently evaluating the migration of our application build environment on IBM AIX from the classic IBM XL C/C++ compiler to IBM Open XL C/C++ for AIX 17.1.1 .

Our application links against the DataDirect ODBC client libraries, and we would like to confirm whether the existing DataDirect libraries are compatible with an application built using IBM Open XL 17.

Specifically, we would appreciate clarification on the following:

  • Are the DataDirect ODBC client libraries officially supported for use with applications compiled using IBM Open XL C/C++ on AIX?
  • If the libraries were originally built using the classic IBM XL C/C++ compiler, are they binary compatible with applications built using IBM Open XL C/C++?
  • Are there any known ABI, runtime, or compiler compatibility considerations that we should be aware of when migrating from IBM XL C/C++ to IBM Open XL C/C++?
  • Is there a minimum DataDirect ODBC driver version required for IBM Open XL compatibility?
  • Are there any recommended compiler or linker options when building applications with IBM Open XL that link against the DataDirect libraries?
  • Have you validated or certified this configuration internally?

Our environment is as follows:

  • Operating System: IBM AIX 7.3
  • Compiler: IBM Open XL C/C++ 17.1.1
  • DataDirect ODBC Driver Version: 8.0.2
  • Application Language: C/C++
  • Target: powerpc64-ibm-aix7.3.0.0
  • Thread model: posix

If additional information is required to evaluate compatibility, please let us know.

Thank you for your assistance.
