David Beavon (Software) asked a question.

How to Promote the Upgrade to OE 13?

I'm pretty excited to use the Built-in AI Coding Assistant in Developer Studio, in OE 13.

There may be some challenges as a developer in using a different ver of OE in dev than prod. Ideally we could upgrade the company to OE 13 for consistency.

Has anyone upgraded their company yet? Which features should be used to promote this new version of OE to company leadership? Are the changes focused primarily on developer productivity (ie. tool chain?) Or should I try to sell the security -related stuff?

    Hi David!

It's great to hear your enthusiasm about OpenEdge 13 and the built-in AI Coding Assistant!

We’ve heard similar excitement from developers who are eager to leverage AI-assisted development within OpenEdge.

Yes, we have several customers actively evaluating and adopting OpenEdge 13.

For company leadership, I would frame the case around three themes:

All aim to help with code completion, review automation, documentation, unit tests, modernization, and context-aware ABL assistance.

    • Hardened security and compliance: OpenEdge 13.0 adds initial FIPS 140-3 support for critical components, which is a strong message if the company cares about regulated environments, audits, or crypto compliance.
    • Increased performance and efficiency: the release also includes DB features such as multi-threaded offline backup and multi-threaded offline index check, which matter to operations and for downtime reduction.

If you want to learn more about these features and more included in the OpenEdge 13.0 release, you can visit the What's New in OpenEdge 13 website.

I’ve also included a What’s New in OpenEdge 13.0 PDF deck for your reference.
