OIS Infrastructure OIS (Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene) asked a question.
Can credentials be included in Custom Performance Monitors?
We have many physical servers which include Lenovo's "XClarity Controller" (a baseboard management system).
The latter can be accessed using dedicated IP addresses, which we assign as additonal interfaces to these devices in WhatsUp Gold.
The XClarity side can only use SNMPv3 credentials, while the operating system side (ESXi and Windows) can only use SNMPv1.
This means that if we assign SNMPv1 credentials to the device, we can use Custom Performance Monitors with the OS, but not with XClarity (and vice-versa).
Is it possible to create Custom Performance Monitors which include credentials in a script?
Are there other solutions we are simpy missing?
Yes. If you create an SNMP Custom Performance monitor, it requires the device to have SNMP on it. Same with custom WMI monitors, they need a Windows credential.
As for your baseboard management system. That uses the RedFish API credential, and if that is enabled on the baseboard management system, like an iLo or iDrac for example, you would discover them with the RedFish credential and it will add all the Baseboard Management Controller monitors to it. But if it does not support RedFish, then yes you would have to create the custom monitors with the appropriate credential. And yes, you can embed credentials or pull them from the device in WhatsUp in your script monitors.
Thanks, Mike.
Unfortunately, not all of our servers can be configured to support Redfish (primarily due to NIST compliance requirements).
Any chance you might have an example of a Custom Performance Monitor with embedded SNMPv3 credentials?
