Afif Zainuddin (Customer) asked a question.
Sitefinity 15 MVC
I have a few existing AdminApp extension components and I'm trying to debug them properly by running the AdminApp application separately from the main Sitefinity site. I have followed all the steps outlined in the AdminApp extension github documentation and I can get the AdminApp application running.
However, all of the existing extensions are not working at all. I don't see any error in the console nor in the terminal when running npm start command. Though, these existing extensions are working fine with the output bundle file being added to the Sitefinity CMS AdminApp folder.
Below are the screenshots of my current config/setup following the adminapp github doc:
STS configuration using Default authentication protocol
Debugging: Running npm start command
Of all the configurations above, are there any other settings I missed that would have caused the adminapp not picking up the custom components?
Thank you in advance!
@Jonathan Read (Progress Software) - Sorry for explicitly tagging you on this question - are you able to help me troubleshoot this issue please?
Really really appreciate if you could point out something that I might miss because I've been having this issue for quite a while now, I just didn't really bother trying to fix it before. Now that some of my extensions are not working after upgrading to Sitefinity v15 and using the latest adminapp extensions code, it has come to the point where I really need to run the AdminApp application separately from the CMS site. Please let me know if you need more details and thank you in advance!
Hey @Afif Zainuddin (Customer) I am unclear on what this issue is besides "it doesn't work". What happens when you navigate to localhost:3000. You should be presented with a screen to add your Sitefinity url. If you are not presented with this screen you can navigate to: localhost:3000/config
If you clone https://github.com/Sitefinity/sitefinity-admin-app-extensions and do not recurse submodules you will not have any "samples". If you want to clone with the samples: git clone https://github.com/Sitefinity/sitefinity-admin-app-extensions --recurse-submodules
Otherwise for a actual project I would not include the submodules (personally)
Make sure the version you checkout is the same as your Sitefinity version. git checkout 15.4.8600.0 or whatever sitefinity version you are on
Hi @Jonathan Read (Progress Software) - sorry for the delay, I've just got the chance to pick up this work.
So in my case, I have a custom bulk command for pages that prompts users to update the selected pages' properties. This custom command is registered and works perfectly fine if I put the sample.extensions.bundle.js file into the AdminApp subfolder of my Sitefinity website. See "Update Next Review Date" custom command below:
However, if I run the AdminApp application separately on http://localhost:3000, the custom command doesn't get registered at all, even though it uses the same adminapp extension code.
There are no errors in the console or in the terminal that would prevent it from being registered in the AdminApp.
Could be a conflict in registration. Maybe try removing the JS bundle from the CMS and then running the standalone admin app
That's a good shout, I'll try that 👍
@Jonathan Read (Progress Software) - No joy, the standalone adminapp still doesn't register the custom extension
The CMS needs to restart after you remove the JS bundle.
Yup I did restart the CMS site after removing the JS bundle as well as the standalone admin app
@Jonathan Read (Progress Software) - It's worth noting that I've had this issue in several applications that use Sitefinity 13 and 14, but I didn't bother raising it anywhere, so it's not a version 15 issue.
Can you please share the code you are using to register the command? what node version are you using? try putting a console.log commands provider to see if it fires when you are running it as stand alone and then debug the JS from there.
