September Game - CHECKERS
This is gonna be tricky-tricky! I remember when we all played chess. I couldn't remember my strategies for any board and lost nearly every game. LET'S SEE IF THAT HAPPENS WITH CHECKERS!
β
How to play:
- Like this post to follow it
- Black goes first. YOU are black. Email me at Community@progress.com with your opening move. Please see the grid below. It has numbers for every valid space to make it easy to navigate. Tell me something along the lines of: "Move the piece on square 10 to square 15."
- Starting on Tuesday 9/2, I promise at least two moves a day per board so we can keep this going, but you can play as few moves as you'd like. We only have until Sept 30th to determine a winner, though! Do your best!
β
What do you get?
- If you win: 30 points
- If you lose: 15 points
- If you stop playing in the middle: 5 points
β
If we don't finish the game by the end of September, whoever has the most pieces on the board wins. If it's a tie, I'll let you win, because I have no ego to worry about bruising. π
β
Rules of Checkers:
- βPieces only move on the dark squares.
- Players cannot skip a turn; they must move a piece if possible.
- Each piece can only move one square diagonally forward at a time, with the exception of a King.
- To get a King, you must reach your opponent's back row. At that point, that specific piece will become a King. A King can move and jump diagonally in any direction.
- A piece can capture an opponent's piece by jumping over it diagonally to an empty square directly behind the opponent's piece.
- A captured piece is removed from the board.
- If, after a jump, your piece is in a position to make another jump over an opponent's piece, you can continue jumping. This is a multi-jump.
- Mandatory Jumps: If you have an available jump or multi-jump, you are required to make it; you cannot choose to make a regular move instead.
- You win by capturing all of your opponent's pieces.
- You also win if you block your opponent so they have no legal moves left.

Here is our game board. Please make note of the numbers on the dark squares.
GOOD LUCK!

I didn't give us a Friday update! How dare I!??!
So far - I've won one game!!!!!!!!!!! (RIP @James Palmer (Vertu Motors PLC)β!)
Not to mention that I've made many mistakes on many more boards. (Thank you for your patience @Chris Maden (Progress Software)β!)
These manual jumps are killing me! Literally! I've been shedding pieces like a cat sheds hair in summer.
Good luck to the rest of us! Remember, it's not too late to get in on this!
Oh MAN!! I'm getting my butt handed to me this week. Kings everywhere! Bloodbaths! I'm not long for this worlddddd!
Congratulations to @Richard Auger (https://pro2col.com/), @Patrice Perrot (PROGINOV) and @Cathy Shehorn (Customer) for besting me. π
For everyone else, though... I still have a chance. πͺ
Bah! More losses. This week I resign, forfeiting my pride to @Chris Maden (Progress Software)β and @Peter Judge (Consultingwerk)β.
β
Just a few games left... but can I win any of them??? π
Alas! I have won no more games...but I didn't lose any either! We have stalemated or passed the date of completion. CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who played! I look forward to our game next month. π
