James Arsenault (Progress Software) asked a question.
We’d like to provide an early overview of the upcoming Corticon 7.2 release, with particular attention to platform support updates and some important architectural changes that may impact customers’ upgrade plans.
Platform and Technical Updates
Support for JBoss 8 and Tomcat 10:
Corticon 7.2 introduces support for JBoss 8 and Tomcat 10. This required a significant migration from the olderjavax.* namespace to the new jakarta.* namespace across the Corticon code base and dependencies. While this enables support for newer Java EE runtimes, not all third-party components have jakarta-compatible versions. As a result, certain features and platform integrations remain unsupported in this release.
Java 21 Support
Corticon 7.2 Studio is now bundled with Java 21, and Corticon Server is fully compatible with Java 21, aligning with modern Java runtime requirements and long-term JVM improvements.
Platform Support Limitations
OpenEdge, HDP, and Snowflake Not Yet Supported
Due to the lack of available jakarta.* -based drivers, Corticon 7.2 does not currently support integrations with OpenEdge, HDP, or Snowflake. We anticipate availability of updated drivers and support by the end of this calendar year (EOY 2025).
WebConsole Deployment Considerations
The Corticon 7.2 release ships the WebConsole distribution from version 7.1. This reflects a strategic move to decouple the WebConsole from the core Server versioning, enabling a consistent and secure deployment across Corticon releases.
The WebConsole continues to require Java 17 and Tomcat 9, as it relies on Grails libraries that are not yet available in the jakarta namespace. This limitation prevents it from running under Java 21 or Tomcat 10 at this time.
Lifecycle and Support Guidance
Corticon 7.2 is Not a Long-Term Support (LTS) Release
Due to the current mix of supported and unsupported platforms, version 7.2 is not designated as an LTS release. It is primarily intended for customers who require immediate support for JBoss 8 or Tomcat 10.
For most other customers, we continue to recommend the 7.1 LTS version for its broader platform compatibility and long-term stability.
Azure OpenAI Support Backport for 7.1
A future 7.1 service pack will include a backport of the Azure OpenAI integration for the Corticon AI Assistant, allowing 7.1 LTS customers to use the assistant with either OpenAI or Azure OpenAI endpoints.
Security and Feature Deprecation
Removal of Swagger UI in Corticon Server
As part of our security hardening efforts, the Swagger UI component has been removed in 7.2. This decision follows internal security reviews and external CVE analyses that identified Swagger as a potential vector for exposure.
While the auto-generated REST API documentation is still included with the Server distribution, we recommend customers use Postman or similar open-source tools for REST API testing going forward.
Nice update!!
Great to see Java 21 and Jakarta EE support! Excited for full platform compatibility in the next LTS release.
