Thanks for the question. It's always a challenge to keep software current and fully supported for 8 (5 Active and 3 Sunset) years, further compounded by dependencies on 3rd party software such as Tomcat.

We are looking at the possibility of upgrading to Tomcat 9 with OE11.7, however, given changes to Tomcat we believe the update would not be transparent to our customers (new instances would likely need to be created). We will continue our investigations to determine the best solution.

As always, we encourage our customers to upgrade their OpenEdge version- OE12 has been shipping for almost 3 years and provides a large number of feature, performance, scalability and security enhancements.

The cost to upgrade the version of Tomcat in OpenEdge 11.7 is prohibitive, and the result could lead to unnecessary instability in the platform. As an alternative, we secured extended support for Tomcat 8.5 for the remaining Sunset phase time (Retired phase begins on April 1, 2025) of OpenEdge 11.7. That means that we continue to receive full support for Tomcat 8.5, uninterrupted and transparent to our customers.
