Sharlyne Tsai (American Society of Appraisers (ASA)) asked a question.

How do you allow a cloud instance of Sitefinity to talk to an external database?

We have a database that we replicated and wanted to test before committing to uploading it into the cloud sitefinity instance.

    Hey Sharlyne,

Could you provide some more details about your needs? How do you want to connect to the external DB? Are you using server based code, JS? Where does the other DB live?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

    Hi Jonathan,

We are using c# code to connect to the database.  So server-side code. The database lives in another server that is different than the cloud sitefinity. So example, cloud sitefinity is at maindomain.com and database is at databaseurl.com. We're trying to connect on port 1433. Currently the connection is timing out.

To confirm it is timing out from your local development environment or you have deployed to 'staging' in cloud and it is timing out or both?

The connection is only timing out on the cloud environment. Everything works in the local environment.

We're trying to migrate content from an on-premise site to the cloud.
