• @Dennis Hoshield When I took a quick look at the log file you sent, it looked like there is an issue with your database (table allocation/space), and if that's the case, I believe you'll get all sorts of errors coming from WhatsUp Gold because it can't store the data properly. I figured support could help you out with the database issues.

  • As an FYI .... we are still working on this. Sent WUGMD results to support.

I have been finding WUG to be pretty much broke since the 2018 upgrade.

Holes in report data (ping latency, etc). Devices going into maintenance mode OK, but not coming out.

When devices are in an 'unknown' status, looking at monitoring for that device appears to have lost relevant information. For example >>. device active monitor status is listing all the interfaces on the device .. even though they are all disabled except for the default interface. It only shows 'unknown' stat, even though the device list showed it green (after about 10 minutes), after stopping maintenance mode. A bit later, I put it in and out of maintenance mode again ... but it has remained in 'unknown' status, since.

  • @Dennis Hoshield Thank you for sending the log files. I have our deployment team checking your installation logs, but didn't see anything that stood out to me.

For the nmdatacollector.log file, however, I am seeing messages indicating that your database is running out of space. I don't know how to fix that, but if you open a case with our support team, they can get that sorted out for you.

  • I found the database, and was able to run the Table Usage query .. results are attached.

Interesting ... the NMDataCollector log file has an .exe extension ... but is a text file, and does have logs up until 3:06pm yesterday afternoon, at least. File is attached.

Looks like this process only allows one attached file pert message. The NMDataCollector file is no longer visible ... only the InstallLogs-Compressed file, after I downloaded that. So, will send Data Collector log file in separate message.

  • @Dennis Hoshield Our dev team would like to get additional information. Please email me your NmDataCollector.txt log file in addition to all of your install log files (zipped please). Thank you.

  • I need to re-learn how to find where my SQL database is located so I can talk to it directly. I've done it before ..

However ... the WUG server has the Admin Console/Tools/Database Tools/Performance ... shows the current database size is 2572.6MB. It did have a couple tables that I optimized, then under Table Maintenance, the Logger had 2 expired rows. I purged the expired rows, then went back to Performance and did the 'Validate and compact database...' (wherever it was! :-) )

Low and behold .. after a few minutes, the devices with the 'unknown status' came green. For giggles, I put one of them back in maintenance mode, then stopped maintenance mode, after the status icon turned yellow. Argh .... it stayed with a greyed ? status. I re-polled it .. and it is (so far) still staying in an unknown status.

I went back to the Admin console, database tools, checked for fragmented tables, and the list is still clean.

Under Settings/General Settings, I have the current screen:

Note, the Active Monitor is set to 7 days.

Looks like I am still getting "Ipswitch.Infrastructure.Crosscutting.Framework" Warnings ... Service bus register error, and others.

I've attached the Logger Health Messages export for today.

  • @Dennis Hoshield Our tech support folks think this is an issue with the database size, specifically the active monitor state change table. Can you give me an estimate on the size of your WhatsUp Gold database? If you have SQL Server Management and can run a query against the database, we would like to see the results of:

    EXEC WhatsUp.dbo.TableUsage

I'd really like to get support involved to help you troubleshoot this further, so if you could go to the My Support page and open a new case, using the product version of WhatsUp Gold 2018. That would be great.

  • I had rebooted the WUG server erlier, to no change....

I just restarted all the polling services you requested ... no change.

I'm seeing the same thing in Chrome 62.0 3202.94 (64bit), as well.
