Deleting auto-created monitors

All of our switch stacks are Cisco.  Some of these stacks can have 300+ interfaces on them.  I usually don't care if an interface goes up or down, unless it is a feed interface, or something .. so I remove all the Active Monitors for those interfaces.  Usually, this works OK.  I have 2 or 3, out of the most recently discovered (small batch of 6) switches, that I can select and choose delete on the interfaces, in small batches of one screen of 10 or so ... until they are gone.  All looks well.  If I closes the window then go back in (even with a different browser) ... all of the previously deleted interfaces are back.  It doesn't make a difference if I disable the interfaces or not.  The Enabled/Disabled flag seems to stick .. but not the deletion.

Any suggestions?  I've tried in MSIE and Firefox(53), and my OS is Win10

  • Luckilly, no ... no real fire. ;-)  We had to do a disaster recovery of our internal scan-to-email SMTP server yesterday, and was all back up running and tested yesterday.  This morning it initially appears like we had 1/2 the printer/scanners in our building that couldn't scan-to-email.  Come to find out, one of the supervisors attempted to test a workaround on some of the machines, while the server was being rebuilt, but didn't set them back to normal properly when he was done.  SMTP services on that box tested OK, BTW.  :-)

  • @Dennis Hoshield That is very strange behavior. I'll report to our development and test team to see if they have seen this as well. Thank you!

    P.S. A real fire???

  • I connected this morning, after an unrelated network fire ... and the monitors I was trying to delete yesterday ..... were gone.  I had already tried using different browsers, flushing cache, etc.   And they stayed still visible, over hours, until this am.  ???

  • Very good ...

No  ... no active scans or merging that I can see, and don't have an auto-(re)discovery set.  Only doing manual scans, in very small increments.  .

I'll try deleting these 2 devices, and re-discovering.

    Thanks for the info!

  • I deleted 10 interfaces from my old Cisco 4900M core switch that I will be removing completely.

SO far I do not see them coming back.  Perhaps you have an active scan or merging going on in the background?

  • That would be great ... but there are caveats, I guess.

4 out of 6 switches I COULD delete interfaces.  Only 2 I can not.  I'll try toasting them, and  re-discover

So, if you could delete and it worked, it may not help  If you delete most of your interfaces and they cam back .... that would be duplicating the issue.  Sounds like you might have a 2/6 chance of having them return! ;-)

There are advantages to NOT deleting them ... Like Bobby mentioned, if you do a re-discovery, they will come back, if deleted, anyway.  If they are are left, and just disabled, then, new discoveries won't bring them back.  If I understand it correctly.

  • I seem to be able to disable/enable the monitors ... just not delete them.  Altough, I usually can.

  • Nice model!

I took my 6880x and enabled all the interfaces (175). close the browser, re-opened and all is good.

I disabled 1 monitored and closed my browser and re-opened and all is good.

I disabled 22 monitors and closed my browser and re-opened and all is good

Try to sort your column by ascending? or maybe deleting the device(s) and re-adding?
