Noob question on setting up for basic alert status on device
I have a windows server (the WUG server itself) successfully polling with some custom WMI queries set up in the monitors library. In the thresholds library I also have a custom threshold tied to it; in this case memory available set to trigger if polled value falls below 8000 for more than 10 minutes. (Set that high for testing)
Polling is working fine and every poll returns a value of less than 8000, yet the device continues to show green. What am I not understanding here?
Hi Kevin,
You did say SMTP above and I misread that; my apologies. You could check if you're communicating with your relay server by going into any of the full page reports (under Analyze -> Device) for instance, and use the Export - Schedule Export option. There's a dialog where you can fill in your email server and send a test email.
Hope that helps,
Robbie
SNMP is definitely working fine, polling is happening with our custom WMI queries all as expected. However, e-mail messages are not going out for over threshold status. If we could verify the system is able to communicate with the SMTP server that would rule that out as the cause.
No, there's not, but you can verify if the device has properly assigned credentials by looking at the device card (click on the device from the map or in the device grid). As long as the device has properly assigned credentials, there should be no issues with SNMP connectivity.
Thank you for this response. As I am getting that set up, is there a way to confirm smtp connectivity from WUG with some sort of "send test e-mail" type of thing? Just to verify that underlying connectivity is not the source of any issues.
Hi Kevin,
The device stays green while the device is in an up state, which is based on active monitors rather than thresholds or performance monitors set on the device. You can set up alerts to email you, etc., if a device goes out of threshold, but that would not indicate that the device is down.
We have some requests in our backlog to tie in the alert center thresholds with the device status, but have no plans to implement this in the near future.
