• In My Network, there are two options:
  • Refresh Device Details
  • Rescan Device
• In Discovered Network, there are a further three options:
  • Update Monitoring
  • Automatically Update Allowed Devices
  • Refresh Device

Refresh Device Details

• This will scan the device using the credentials configured on the device and update the following information in the device properties
  • Attributes
  • Inventory
  • Connectivity Links shown on the Auto Layout map
  • Any new sub-roles will be applied to the device, if applicable
• Additionally, the Device Role will be updated if it is current set to "Device" or "Managed Device"

Rescan Device

• Rescan device does everything that Refresh Device Details performs
• In addition, it will also re-scan all Active Monitors which have the "Use in Rescan" option enabled
• If any of those Active Monitors would apply to the device, they will be automatically applied to the Active Monitors of the device

• Both the "Refresh Device Details" and "Rescan Device" options are available in the Device Context menu in My Network
• Running a Discovery Scan of a device will perform all the same actions as Rescan Device
• In addition, it will:
  • Re-evaluate sub-roles, and add any newly applicable roles
  • Add Active Monitors from those sub-roles (even if they do not have "Use in Rescan" turned on)
• The following three options are available in the Discovered Network, and can be used with or after a Discovery Scan

Update Monitoring

• When a Discovery Scan is run against a device, the updated details of that device are saved to the Discovered Network
• This includes inventory details such as Windows Updates, ARP Cache and SNMP Device Attributes, to name a few
• Unlike My Network, Device Details saved on the Discovered Network are volatile
• Selecting "Update Monitoring" for any device in the Discovered Network will save these updated details to My Network
• The updated Inventory, Device Attributes etc can then be seen in the Device Properties of the Device in My Network, and these details will also be reflected in any Device Inventory related Dashboard Reports (eg "Installed Software", or "Windows Updates")
• The "Update Monitoring" button appears in the device card on the Discovered Network

Automatically Update Allowed Devices

• This option is available under the advanced options when creating a new Discovery Scan, or modifying an existing one
• Because the Discovery Service is used to keep Device Inventory details up-to-date, some customers may want to ensure that any recent changes/updates to their devices are automatically updated in My Network without having to manually select "Update Monitoring"
• Selecting "Automatically Update Allowed Devices" in the Advanced options of a Discovery Scan will automatically update the device in My Network
• There are some guidelines to bear in mind when using this option
  • It can only be used with the "Monitored Devices" Discovery Option
  • All credentials assigned to the device will be used during the Scan, even if they have not been explicitly enabled in the Scan and even if the "Use all Current and Future Credentials" option has not been checked
  • The "Keep Details Current" option must be enabled on the corresponding device(s) in order for those devices to be automatically updates
  • This option is enabled by default and is visible in the Device Properties
  • Devices which do not have this option enabled will still be updated in the Discovered Network, but will have to be manually updated in My Network (by Using the Update Monitoring button)

Refresh Device

• When viewing the device card of any device in My Network, there are 3 options available
• The third option, Refresh, will create a new Discovery Scan with the IP Address pre-populated and the appropriate Credentials selected
• The user can then press Run to run the scan against that one Device
• Once complete, the user can manually update the Device Details in My Network using the "Update Monitoring" button
• Discovery/Refresh only updates the discovery information does not update the My Network Information, unless you do a "Update Monitoring" on the device once the scan is complete
