This is for Chef 360 DSM import .

The default API gateway request body default size limit of 10 MB. Large cookbook objects exceeded the configured API gateway request body size limit (10 MB). As a result, upload requests were rejected by the internal API gateway, causing DSM import operations to fail during cookbook with large size object uploads to Bookshelf.

The DSM import process failed during cookbook file upload when attempting to upload a large cookbooks, which significantly exceeds typical size limits.

There is a requirement to configure and enforce a maximum body size limit (in MB) for internal and public API gateways to accommodate varying API payload requirements while ensuring system performance, security, and resource utilization are maintained. The solution should allow defining the maximum request body size limit, with the default value set to 10 MB.

Currently, the maximum request body size limit for both internal and public API gateways is configured with a default value of 10 MB. This limit controls the maximum size of the request payload that APIs can accept.

Error 1: Knife EC Import Failure (Primary Error)

Type: Command Execution Failure
Exit Code: 1

Error Message: knife ec import failed: exit status 1

Details:

• The knife ec import command exited with generic status code 1
• This is the visible error reported to the user

Error 2: Cookbook Upload Failure

Type: Network Connection/File Upload Error
Error Code: Errno::ECONNRESET

During transmission, the uploader thread terminated with:

Connection reset by peer (Errno::ECONNRESET)

Why the Reported Error Looks Generic

The process-level failure only exposes knife ec import failed: exit status 1, which masks the actual low-level upload exception unless TRACE logs are reviewed.

How to Change the API body size in Chef 360

There is a requirement to configure and enforce a maximum request body size limit (expressed in MB) for both internal and public API gateways. This limit must be adjustable to accommodate varying API payload needs while ensuring optimal system performance, security, and resource utilization. The solution should provide a configurable parameter to define the maximum request body size, with a default value set to 10 MB.

Config changes for using the API body size of 75MB, below is the screenshot for reference. 

Once the config changes are saved, for the changes to take effect, the config has to be deployed. Below is the screenshot for reference.

Once the changes are applied, now the DSM import for large cookbook will be able to upload.
