Steps to Reproduce

Clarifying Information

By default, the Microsoft Web Browser Control renders documents in IE 7 mode even when IE 8 or IE 9 is the default browser on the platform.

This default behavior prevents the ABLE applications using the embedded Microsoft Web Browser OCX from taking advantage of newer HTML features.

Selecting IE8 or IE 9 rendering modes enables the ABL applications using embedded Microsoft Web Browser Controls to take advantage of the latest HTML features.

Resolution

Starting with Internet Explorer 8 and later, embedded Microsoft Web Browser Control rendering mode can be specified by registry settings. These settings controls the mode in which prowin32.exe client applications containing embedded Microsoft Web Browser Controls render documents and controls. The following steps explain how to select this rendering mode:

1. On 32-Bit platforms, define a new DWORD named prowin32.exe in the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION

2. On 64-Bit platforms, define a new DWORD named prowin32.exe in the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION

3. Set the value of the newly created prowin32.exe DWORD as follows:

a. 11001 - Webpages are displayed in Internet Explorer 11 Standards mode, regardless of !DOCTYPE directive.
b. 11000 - Webpages containing standards-based !DOCYPE directives are displayed in Internet Explorer 11 mode.
  c. 10001 - Webpages are displayed in Internet Explorer 10 Standards mode, regardless of !DOCTYPE directive.
d. 10000 - Webpages containing standards-based !DOCYPE directives are displayed in Internet Explorer 10 mode.
e. 9999 - Webpages are displayed in Internet Explorer 9 standards mode regardless of the !DOCTYPE directive.
  f. 9000 - Webpages containing standards-based !DOCTYPE directives are displayed in Internet Explorer 9 mode.
  g. 8888 - Webpages are displayed in Internet Explorer 8 standards mode regardless of the !DOCTYPE directive.
  h. 8000 - Webpages containing standards-based !DOCTYPE directives are displayed in Internet Explorer 8 mode.
  e. 7000 - Webpages containing standards-based !DOCTYPE directives are displayed in Internet Explorer 7 mode.
