Enable Basic Authentication on IIS for UAT Sites

  • Enable Basic Authentication on IIS for UAT Sites
  • We wish to protect our UAT sites from bot indexing, URL leakage and accidental browsing.

For our other CMS systems we setup a generic windows account on the web server and enable basic authentication for the site.  To access the site the client has to enter a username and password.

Simplistic, but it works.  How can this be enabled for Sitefinity?  We are using version 6.3 with IIS 7.5 on 2008 R2.

  • Bump to give Telerik the opportunity to answer.

  • Hello,

The easiest way to do this would be to change the view Permissions for pages to Authenticated only instead of Everyone and create a page with the login widget that can be viewed to everyone. After that, configure the frontend login url for the site from Administration - Settings - Advanced - Project:screencast.com/.../0dYhZOVI33y
and set it the url of the frontend login. You can create only 1 frontend user(that does not have access to the backend) and distribute it to your users, everyone can login with this user and access the pages.

    I hope this helps.
