Added a "Version Number" field to an Object.Selected "Increment version number when record is updated"Updated the record but the version number is never incremented.
Am I missing something, or is this just broken?
Please check whether the version number field which created is added to all pages or not.
What i mean is while creation of field for an object select all the checkboxes i.e., Application Pages and View Pages.

I tried it in my setup and it is working fine.
Where exactly you haven't seen the incremented value for 'Version Number'?
We can select pages where we want to display this field while creating field. If we missed that step, then we have to go to each page/view to add that field to display there.
By default, the value will be shown in New, Edit, Quick Create and View record pages.
If you want to show this value in records list page, go to object definition-> Views. Edit the view by adding 'Version Number' field to 'Selected Columns' and save it.
