logging parameter

This question is answered

log-manager does not have info if we can setup a specific time interval to trace back in time for a logs. Say after an event happened I can only trace back in time to 30 mins or an hour?

Appreciate your insight,

Win

  • Do you mean that data older than the (say) 30 minutes is discarded?

  • Yes, say it only captures data in specific period of time like 30 mins beyond that it discarded...

  • Sorry Win, I'm not sure I understand you.  Is this a possible bug or an enhancement request?

You mention "logging parameter".  Which parameter(s) are you referring to?

  • My apology, I am looking if there is parameter that only trace back events in logs update certain period of time like 30 mins?

  • The challenge is that the log-manager – and most logging solutions - writes to file pretty much immediately. I don’t believe that any past events are held for any time.

  • Depending on OpenEdge version and the type of logs you're referring to (client logs, app server logs, database logs), there are some parameters available for archiving/truncating logs after a certain period of time or once the file reaches a defined threshold size.  But I don't think you'll find anything that does this after a period as short as thirty minutes.

  • Got it..Thanks guys...

  • Thanks, found this > documentation.progress.com/.../index.html > R&D (Advanced options) > 4 (Administration Functions) > 15 (Database Log file management). However 15 (Database log file managment) not option. Couldn't find the version where this utility in promon is available?
