OpenEdge 10.2B on Windows 10

This question is answered

Hi

Windows 10 is expected to be released soon possibly in end-July or August 2015.   May I know whether there is any plan for OpenEdge V10 products to be certified for WIndows 10?

We will also test and certify 10.2B08 with Windows 10.

    Hi Dileep

Yes I saw that under the topic "Don't know whether its Off-limit" . This is the topic that prompt me to ask about V10.2B.   The way I read it is that it would be done for OE11.  But I would like to confirm whether it would be done for OE10 as well.

  • OK.

    This is from Product Management:

Window 10 certification is planned for after the official release of the product and where it fits appropriately into our certification schedule. At this point (standard disclaimers apply) it will be sometime after the release of 11.6. I would anticipate the end of this year or the beginning of the next year but that may change.

  • I would think it's extremely unlikely to be certified. That said, it'll probably work just fine, though (assuming client side).

  • We currently have plans to certify Windows 10 with OE 11 and 10.2B08.  This is currently scheduled for sometime in the fall / winter.

Can you provide some ideas of why Windows 10 is of interest to you?
Is it just a standard upgrade or is there something specific in Windows 10 you want to take advantage of?

    Thanks

  • Hi Brian,

Microsoft is kind of preparing an fully automated roll out of Windows 10….

Users (not on an Enterprise edition of Windows) will get this icon through the monthly Windows 8 updates

And in a few weeks from now, it will prompt you “hurray, Windows 10 is there, you can upgrade for free”.

And some users will do so. (I will do so). And suddenly a poor Progress AP would have to support their application on Windows 10.

It’s the automatic update that Microsoft is moving to that makes this kind of urgent. We can’t run away from having to support Windows 10.

  • Hi Brian

Windows 7/8 upgrade to Windows 10 is free - I believe most existing users will want to take advantage of this before the offer from Microsoft ends.     Another reason is that new computers will soon come with Windows 10 and prospective clients will expect our applications to be able to run on it .   It would be good if OE10 & 11 could be certified soonest.

    Thanks

    Regards
