For all Progress OpenEdge supported platforms, Dual and Quad processor support is implicitly supported as long as the host operating system also provides guaranteed multi-CPU support.
Multi CPU performance with Workgroup Database License:
The performance of the Workgroup Database running under a single-CPU machine can degrade when moved to a multi-CPU environment. This is not a generic product issue and so will not be experienced by every Workgroup deployment, the problem is most commonly observed under x86 based environments such as Windows & Linux. Since multi-CPU machines are the entry level standard for modern Desktop and Laptop machines, the Workgroup Database was enhanced in OpenEdge 10.1B01, 10.1C releases to become more multi-CPU aware by allowing a -spin value of 1, so that Workgroup Database environments aren't penalized with respect to ‘out of box’ performance for upgrading their underlying hardware. The performance differential and hence the business benefits between the Workgroup and Enterprise RDBMS editions for both single-CPU and multi-CPU environments remain unaffected; even with alternative non-product related workarounds available such as CPU-Affinity that can be employed, under the same environment Enterprise will always outperform Workgroup.
