The proinventory tool is designed to assist Progress Software Customer Support in collecting information that will be used to analyze, diagnose and correct configuration issues that may arise when operating Progress (OpenEdge) Software products.
Proinventory tool polls the current machine for information regarding the Operating System, hardware, Progress (OpenEdge) installation and configuration information.
Proinventory accomplishes this task by creating log files that contain the following information: (The files listed below are default files that are obtained by proinventory). See the README file with the tool for more options to collect additional information as needed.
- conmgr.properties.<version> - conmgr.properties file for a specific release of the product.
- DynInfo<version>.log - Dynamics configuration information (available with proinventory version 2.0)
- Environment.log - environment variables. Progress registry settings. (for Windows platforms).
- ProCfg<version>.log - information in progress.cfg, and installd.ini if available.
- ProInstall<version>.log - list of files installed by Progress. (On Unix platforms, this list contains permissions as well as owner and group associated with files).
- Properties<verison>.log - contains validation information associated with the ubroker.properties and conmgr.properties file, and includes the startup.pf file and as.pf file.
- Security<version>.log - lists certificate information as well as keystore entries. (available with proinventory version 2.0)
- SysInfo.log - OS-specific system information including devices, disk space, process listing etc.
- ubroker.properties.<version> - ubroker.properties file for a specific release of the product.
- Versions.log - OS version, Progress versions, Java versions. OCX and DLL versions for Windows only
There currently are two versions of the proinventory utility: 1.3 and 2.0.
If any problem is experienced with a version (1.3 or 2.0) of the utility, please contact Progress Software Customer Support so a defect may be reported regarding the issue. Please then try the other version of the tool as a possible workaround.
The proinventory tool is packaged into a .tar or .zip file (depending on the platform). A readme.txt file is also included in the tar or zip file that contains specific instructions for running the tool.
From OpenEdge 11.2 onward, ProInventory is shipped and installed together with the OpenEdge installation.
On UNIX, it can be executed by calling the $DLC/bin/proinventory script from a PROENV prompt.
On Windows, it can be executed by entering the _proinventory command in a PROENV prompt, or by double-clicking on %DLC%\bin\_proinventory.exe executable.
