Question/Problem Description
Database users are receiving the error message 290 when they are disconnected
Error 290 is predominantly on .pl files used in the PROPATH
The .pl files are located on a separate machine and a VMware snapshot or backup of the VM was being made during the time the clients were disconnected
Steps to Reproduce
Clarifying Information
Windows file caching is disabled according to advice in Article:
Error MessageSYSTEM ERROR: I/O error 22 in readit, ret -1, file 9(.\directoryName\fileName.pl), addr 0. (290)
Defect Number
Enhancement Number
Cause
When a VMware snapshot is made then the machine is in an inactive state:
This then causes error 290 to appear in the database log file when users are being disconnected from the application.
Resolution
Do not do VMware snapshots or backups of virtual machines running software (or that have files used by that software) when users are connected to those machines to use that software.

The file number and file name shown in the 290 error may differ.  Do not assume this Article does not apply simply because these values are not the same as those you are seeing.

For Database Servers, the database has either not been quiesced or shutdown beforehand. Refer to Article:
