The same rules must be considered when utilizing Solid State Drives (SSDs) as with standard hard disk drives (HDDs) when choosing what RAID architecture to implement.
As a general rule, it is NOT recommended to use RAID 5 with Solid State Drive (SSD) storage, which also applies for standard hard disk drives (HDDs).
Another reason to avoid the combination of RAID 5 and SSD disks is the additional writes to the SSD disks that using RAID 5 will cause, and therefore possibly shortening the life of the SSD disks, SSDs have a limited lifespan for the number of writes they can take. RAID 5 is likely to wear out the SSDs more quickly in a raid 5 configuration. |
