Question/Problem Description

Please consider following code example:

DEF TEMP-TABLE tt1 NO-UNDO
   FIELD fld1 AS CHAR
   INDEX itt1 fld1.

PROCEDURE testXrf
   CREATE tt1.
   ASSIGN tt1.fld1 = 'bla'.

   FIND FIRST tt1.
END PROCEDURE.

When the TEMP-TABLE is defined in the main block, but the temp-table record is created inside an internal PROCEDURE or FUNCTION, then this is reflected in the XREF output:
'CREATE tt1 TEMPTABLE' is seen in the xrf file (please refer to the screenshot below with XREF output and sample examples).

But if there's no PROCEDURE statement, it's not there in the XREF output.

The documentation for the COMPILE XREF option explains in the following (last) note:
Temp-tables must be shared to be included in XREF output.
Locally defined temp-tables are not considered cross-referenced objects and are therefore not included in XREF output.

Above would mean that adding the PROCEDURE statement before the CREATE statement would make the TEMP-TABLE shared ?
Even if the procedure is internal?

Resolution

When compiling the CREATE in the internal procedure, a buffer reference is created and marked as shared (with the main block). This is expected behavior.
