Question/Problem Description

The registration widget is set to send emails for account activation and the 'SendEmailOnSuccess' property is set to false but after account activation the email for successful registration is always being sent.

Cause

This is expected behavior. In Sitefinity v15.2 the new account activation flow was introduced where email for successful registration is always being sent to the user.

Resolution

It is possible to entirely disable the method that handles the sending of the successful email after account activation by extending the Account activation widget.

To do so, follow the steps below:

1. Create a new class called 'AccountActivationModelCustom' and extend the 'AccountActivationModel'.

2. Override the 'SendRegistrationSuccessEmail' and leave the method empty:

public class AccountActivationModelCustom : AccountActivationModel
{
    protected override void SendRegistrationSuccessEmail(UserManager userManager, User user)
    {
    }
}

3. Register 'AccountActivationModelCustom' in the Global.asax:

public class Global : System.Web.HttpApplication
{
    protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        Bootstrapper.Bootstrapped += this.Bootstrapper_Bootstrapped;
    }

    private void Bootstrapper_Bootstrapped(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        FrontendModule.Current.DependencyResolver.Rebind<IAccountActivationModel>().To<AccountActivationModelCustom>();
    }
}
