Question/Problem Description

oejmx terminateABLSession with option 2 causes PAS Instance error MSAS Error handling request! Status=-1003
Note: The same happens with oejmx refreshAgent(s) as this is calling terminateAblSession.

After issuing the oejmx query terminateABLSession with option 2 to terminate a PASOE ABL Session (option 2 means: allow current request to complete before terminating), subsequent request may fail. When this happens, there will be error messages in the agent log file that state: “Could not get and/or initialize session! Cannot process request.” followed by: “Error handling request! Status=-1003”.

The application code raises errors as it cannot connect to a PAS instance after executing the Progress graceful session removal using terminateABLSession option 2.

These errors raised 17 exceptions in the Tomcat log:

Cause

An internal semaphore being used to keep track of available ABL sessions was being decremented incorrectly. The semaphore was indicating that there was an available ABL Session on a chain to terminate, when in fact there wasn't. The 'terminateABLSession' option had removed it.

Resolution

Fixed version(s): OpenEdge 12.5, OpenEdge 12.2.7
