Executing the following statement as a parameterized prepared statment fails with an error:

While testing to seek a workaround, it was found that the ParameterMetaData returned by the driver reports the parameters as VARCHAR (1).

This presents two problems or limitations:

1)  The syntax for the "CASE" clause in this case apparently requires an argument that is single quoted.  The literal (non-parameterized) version of the syntax that will run correctly is the following:

Since the size of the parameter can only be a size of 1, there is no way to pass a 3-character value of "'A'" as a parameter value.

2) Quoting the parameter marker as part of the SQL causes the number of parameters to be reported as zero, so no values can be passed in.
 

Fixed in hot fix 5.1.4.000319.

Modify the SQL to contain literal values for the CASE statements.
