An abstract base class defines both a non-void abstract method with no parameters and a non-void, non-abstract method with a parameter. A derived class overrides both methods. The override of the non-ABSTRACT method calls the base method with a line similar to "SUPER:SimpleMethod(p)". Invoking this method raises error (1005). Defect is similar to PSC00349147, fixed in OpenEdge 11.6.3 and 11.7, except that it occurs when the methods return a non-VOID value.

Question/Problem Description

An abstract base class defines both a non-void abstract method with no parameters and a non-void, non-abstract method with a parameter. A derived class overrides both methods. Invoking this method raises error "Procedure SimpleMethod SimpleChild passed parameters to SimpleMethod SimpleBase, which didn't expect any. (1005)"

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create an abstract base class with an abstract method and a regular method, both with the same name. The regular method should take a single parameter. They should both return any type other than void. 2. Create a class that inherits from this base class and override both methods. In the case of the regular method, call super:MethodName(param). 3. Invoke the method. Use the code below to reproduce the issue: SimpleBase.cls: USING Progress.Lang.*. BLOCK-LEVEL ON ERROR UNDO, THROW. CLASS SimpleBase ABSTRACT: METHOD PUBLIC ABSTRACT CHARACTER SimpleMethod(). METHOD PUBLIC CHARACTER SimpleMethod(p AS INTEGER): END. END CLASS. SimpleChild.cls: USING Progress.Lang.*. Clarifying Information

This defect is almost the same as PSC00349147, fixed in OpenEdge 11.6.3 and 11.7, except that it occurs when the methods return a non-VOID value.

If the methods return VOID, method resolution occurs as expected.

If the parameterless method is not abstract, method resolution occurs as expected.

The workaround from PSC00349147 of defining the ABSTRACT method last works in this case as well.
