Users are unable to log into the web admin because and the miadminweb log show Java out of memory errors.
Users cannot download task logs from the Web Admin.

Version 2026.0 and newer:

By default, the Web Admin service is configured to use the below JVM configuration by default:

-XX:MaxMetaspaceSize=512m --JvmMs=1024 --JvmMx=2048

This provides 1 GB initial heap and 2 GB maximum heap, which provides more stability for deployments with 500–1,000 tasks as compared to the default values in previous versions.

2026.0 release notes reference information:

Versions 2025.1 and prior:

By default, the Web Admin service is configured to use 512MB RAM. If outOfMemory errors occur, this value may need to be increased to handle the increased load.

Without enough memory available, the Web Admin will not function properly and this can prevent users from logging on.

This is common on systems with several thousands tasks, for example, anything over four thousand tasks may notice this issue. Also, this can occur is many users are accessing the system simultaneously and the config file is large.

Large task logs may require memory to be increased.

1. Create a FULL system backup (e.g. Virtual machine snapshot).
2. Log in locally to the MOVEit Automation server.
3. Turn off the Web Admin service.
4. Open a command prompt window with elevated privileges.
5. Change the working directory to the web admin bin folder:
   1. C:\Program Files\MOVEit\MOVEit Automation Web Admin\Tomcat\bin
6. Once here, run the following command:
   1. tomcat9w.exe //ES/MICAdmin  (for versions prior to MOVEit 2025)

   2. tomcat10w.exe //ES/MICAdmin (for MOVEit 2025+)
7. A 'MOVEit Automation Web Admin Properties' window will appear:
   1.
8. Go to the Java tab, which includes the memory allocation settings:
   1.
9. Adjust the 'Maximum memory pool' setting to the desired maximum allowance (doubling the default value to 1024 MB is a good start):
   1.
10. Click 'Apply' and 'OK'.
11. Start the web admin service.
12. Try to login again.

Note: upgrading MOVEit Automation may cause the 'Maximum memory pool' setting to get reverted back to the original default value.

In a failover setup, the steps need to be applied on both nodes.

Depending on the load of the Automation server, the number of tasks running, the heap size needed could be different from the value. 1K+ tasks usually require 2K heap size ( 2048). There have been situations where that size was bumped to 4K (4096) for some customers with 5K+ tasks. So the heap size depend on the number of tasks running together and also on the complexity of those tasks.

Please keep in mind that when the heap size is changed, an upgrade could revert that change back to the default value. So, it is good to check the "maximum memory pool" setting before and after an upgrade to make sure the value is set correctly for the environment.
