Unable to create Business Entity from schema file in Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge (PDS for OE). TEMP-TABLES and ProDataSets not shown in Schema window of Select a schema file page. Error message "Can not display schema for the selected file. Select another file" is displayed.

Question/Problem Description

In a PDS for OpenEdge project, TEMP-TABLES and ProDataSets are not displayed in the schema window of the New Business Entity: Select a schema file page. At the bottom of the page the Next and Finish buttons are grayed out. The business entity can not be created.
The error message "Cannot display schema for the selected file. Select another file" is displayed at the top of the New Business Entity: Select a schema file page.

When a project is in this state the New Business Entity: Select a schema file page looks like the following:

Steps to Reproduce

1) Start up Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge 2) Create a project 2a) File->New OpenEdge Project 3) Copy the .i file containing the schema into the project's directory (using Windows Explorer or some other tool). 4) Do not refresh the project. 5) Create a Business Entity. 5a) Select the project. 5b) Right click the project 5c) Select New->Business Entity 5d) The Create a Business entity class page appears. 5e) Fill in the Business entity name. 5f) Click Next 5g) Select the Select schema from file radio button. 5h) Click the Browse button, select the .i file, click Open. 5i) The Schema section of under the Schema file field contains no TEMP-TABLES or ProDataSets.

Clarifying Information

The project is not refreshed after an .i file (schema file) is placed into the project directory using a tool other than PDS for OpenEdge (such as Windows Explorer).

This is expected behavior.
PDS for OpenEdge does not know about the .i file (schema file) because the project was not refreshed after the .i file was added to the project directory. Since PDS for OpenEdge does not know about the .i file, PDS for OE can not display the TEMP-TABLES or ProDataSets contained in the .i file.

Resolution

After copying the schema file into the project directory, right click on the project and select Refresh. The schema file now displays under the project in the PDS for OpenEdge window. Once the project is refreshed, and the schema file is selected the New Business Entity: Select a schema file page looks like the following:

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, try restarting the OpenEdge AVM as follows:
PDS for OpenEdge toolbar->Project->Restart OpenEdge AVM.
In one instance the steps above did not resolve the issue but restarting the OpenEdge AVM did resolve the issue.
