OE BPM considerations when moving to OpenEdge 11.7.12 and later.
What to be aware of when using OE BPM and moving to OpenEdge 11.7.12 and later.

OpenEdge Business Process Management (OE BPM) has been removed from the OpenEdge installer in OpenEdge 11.7.12 and later.

Full installation of OE BPM is not possible with the 11.7.12 installer:
Customers with licenses who need to install OpenEdge Business Process Management must install it from OpenEdge 11.7.11 or an earlier version. After the installation is complete, the update installer for OpenEdge 11.7.12 or later can be used. 

2 Steps process for installing OEBPM when customer needs to be on latest 11.7.update:
The first step is to install OEBPM on that (earlier) version of Progress, before starting the second step, which is to subsequently install OE 11.7.12+. And to install OE 11.7.12+ requires using the update installer for OE 11.7.12+. This is correct and supportable configuration.
Configurations on OE11.7.11, applying subsequent OE Updates would have no impact on the already-installed OE BPM.

New configurations:
If it's a brand new setup starting with OE11.7.<current update>, one possibility is to install OE11.7.11 (which includes OE BPM) and then apply the subsequent OE Updates.

Control codes and installation conflicts:
Customers enter the control codes at the time of 11.7.11 install and later runs the 11.7.14 Update. For updates, the installer will not ask for control codes. As mentioned below, it will throw a warning 'No OpenEdge Product Found Error ...' during 11.7.14 Update as there are no bits for OEBPM in 11.7.14.

Error occurs when applying the 11.7.12 Update to an existing installation that includes OE BPM:
Customers with OE BPM already installed in their environment will encounter the error below when the 11.7.12 Update installation is initiated:

No OpenEdge Product Found Error
The OpenEdge Installation Utility could NOT find a product for the following entered data:
Serial Number: <OE BPM serial number>
Release Number: 11.7
Control Number: <OE BPM control code>
Call Progress technical support.

This is expected because Progress removed the OE BPM bits from OpenEdge 11.7.12 onwards. 

Click OK to proceed further with the Update installation.


License error occurs when applying 11.7.12 Update to a Progress Developer Studio for OpenEdge (PDSOE) only installation:
When installing PDSOE only, users have the option to install a development version of OE BPM. 



In 11.7.12, this license and the option to remove the components installed with the license is no longer available.

Customers moving from 11.7.11 or lower to 11.7.12 will see the error below when attempting to start the BP Server:

Developer Studio plugins remain and workflow design is still possible.

A separate BP Server license is required to be installed in order to test workflows.

Customers wishing to retain the OE BPM development server provided with PDSOE standalone will need to remain on 11.7.11 or lower.
 

Please note that End Of Life for OpenEdge Business Process Management was announced on March 22, 2021.
