Java version shipped with 11.4, 11.5 and 11.6 (1.7.0_45) has a known java bug that can make OpenEdge installations impossible on Solaris

The java issue is described on
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8035283

The java issue also affect other other OpenEdge java processes like the Adminserver.

The issue is sporadic but on affected Solaris machines the issue is always present.

Java issue described on
https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8035283

Fixed in the service pack 1 for 11.6 for existing 11.6 installations, the java version is then upgraded to 1.7.0_55 (java upgrade specific to the Solaris platform)
OpenEdge 11.7 will not be affected since it will be using a java version that is not affected by the java bug.

download the files:

jdk-7u55-solaris-sparc.tar.gz
jdk-7u55-solaris-sparcv9.tar.gz
jre-7u55-solaris-sparc.tar.gz
jre-7u55-solaris-sparcv9.tar.gz

from the Oracle website, then (as root) unpack those files with the commands:

gunzip -c jdk-7u55-solaris-sparc.tar.gz |tar xvf -
gunzip -c jdk-7u55-solaris-sparcv9.tar.gz |tar xvf -
gunzip -c jre-7u55-solaris-sparc.tar.gz |tar xvf -
gunzip -c jre-7u55-solaris-sparcv9.tar.gz |tar xvf -
mv jdk1.7.0_55 jdk
mv jre1.7.0_55 jre
chown -R root jre
chown -R root jdk
chgrp -R root jre
chgrp -R root jdk

and launch (still as root) the script ./javaBugWorkaround.sh (after a 'chmod 777 javaBugWorkaround.sh') in one Solaris terminal window and start the OpenEdge ./proinst installation in a second Solaris terminal window.

(downloading the script javaBugWorkaround.sh from the Solaris machine with command:
/usr/sfw/bin/wget http://knowledgebase.progress.com/servlet/fileField?id=0BEa0000000081W -O javaBugWorkaround.sh
might work if the wget utility is installed on the Solaris machine
)

The content of the script file javaBugWorkaround.sh (this file is also attached to this article) is :
