Question/Problem Description

Inconsistent PRECISION for the floating point number column in the metadata when using the Progress DataDirect Oracle JDBC driver.

https://docs.oracle.com/en/database/oracle/oracle-database/19/sqlrf/Data-Types.html#GUID-1BABC478-FB47-4962-9B0C-8B8BD059E733

Steps to Reproduce

1. Table DDL: CREATE TABLE "table_name"("col1" DOUBLE PRECISION not null, "col2" FLOAT not null, "col3" FLOAT(10) not null, "col4" REAL not null); 2. Open a connection: conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, user, password); 3. Get Database Metadata: DatabaseMetaData dbMeta = conn.getMetaData(); 4. Retrieve metadata for the table "table_name": rs = dbMeta.getColumns(null, null, "table_name", null); 5. Process result set and print metadata for each column: while (rs.next()) { int columnSize = rs.getInt("COLUMN_SIZE"); System.out.println("Precision size: " + columnSize); }

Clarifying Information

Observed behavior for FLOAT , REAL, FLOAT(N), DOUBLE PRECISION:

Precision (Size): 15

Expected behavior for FLOAT:

Precision (Size): 126

Expected behavior for REAL:

Precision (Size): 63
