Chef provides a special tool for automatic upgrades called the chef-client-updater cookbook. This cookbook helps to automate the process of upgrading or updating the Chef Client to a newer version.

This cookbook updates the Chef Infra Client. For a Chef Infra Client upgrade to occur, the running Chef Infra Client as well as the parent process must be killed, and a new Chef Infra Client must start using the updated binaries. This cookbook handles killing the chef-client process and updating the clients.

This cookbook provides both a custom resource and a default recipe. The default recipe simply uses the custom resource with a set of attributes.

These properties need to be modified for using the local repository or in an Airgapped environment.

version - The version of the Chef Infra Client to install. Default :latest
download_url_override - The direct URL for the Chef Infra Client package.
checksum - The SHA-256 checksum of the Chef Infra Client package from the direct URL.
