How to make master and detail view hyperlinks for content modules persist query string.

The information presented in this article relates to Sitefinity`s WebForms based widgets.

To achieve this, the controls DetailViewHyperLink and MasterViewHyperlink inside the Master and Detail view of Sitefinity content widget(e.g. News, Blog posts, events) have to be extended to persist the query string.

To apply the customization follow the steps below:
1. Refer to the attached CustomMasterAndDetailHyperminks.zip, it contains the two customized classes that extend MasterViewHyperlink and DetailViewHyperLink . The classes append the current query string to the URL of the master or detail view respectively.

if (SystemManager.CurrentHttpContext.Request.QueryString.ToString() != String.Empty)
{
this.NavigateUrl += "?" + SystemManager.CurrentHttpContext.Request.QueryString.ToString();
}

Add those classes to the site project in Visual Studio.

2. Edit a page with content widget.

3. Edit the widget and go to List Settings (this is Master view ) in section List template click the edit button to edit the template.
3.1.Replace the <sf:DetailsViewHyperLink... with:

<custom:CustomDetailsViewHyperLink TextDataField="Title" ToolTipDataField="Description" runat="server" data-sf-field="Title" data-sf-ftype="ShortText"/>

3.2. Since this is a custom widget register a tag prefix for it so it is usable:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="custom" Namespace="SitefinityWebApp.CustomWidgets" Assembly="SitefinityWebApp" %>

Save the changes to this template.

4. The same as step 3 have to be applied over the widget template for the Details view of the widget, but the control to replace is MasterViewHyperLink, go to "Single Item settings" tab in the designer of the blog posts widget, and edit the widget template.

4.1. Replace the <sf:MasterViewHyperLink .... with

<custom:CustomMasterViewHyperLink class="sfpostBack sfback"
Text="<%$ Resources:BlogResources, allposts %>" runat="server" />

4.2.Since this is a custom widget register a tag prefix for it so it is usable:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="custom" Namespace="SitefinityWebApp.CustomWidgets" Assembly="SitefinityWebApp" %>

Save changes.
