This article describes methods for versions older than WS_FTP Professional 7.0. For newer versions see article How to move my Sites to a new machine or how to make a backup of my Site configurations

The answer varies depending on which version of WS_FTP, and which Operating System you are running. 

Please do a search on your computer for "original.ini"; and "ws_ftp.ini". When you find these files, please open them and verify that your site information is listed. If so, you will want to copy the files from the old PC to the new PC and paste them in the appropriate directory (see chart below for version and OS details).

In version 2006 (thru 12.2), there is an option, Import Sites, in the Tools menu. Use the table below to determine where your site profiles are kept. Then, use the Site Import Wizard to import your sites. Tools > Import Sites.

On Windows2000 and on Windows XP:
C:\documents and settings\username\application data\Ipswitch\Ws_ftp\Sites

If you are still not able to see your sites when you open WS_FTP, go back into the ws_ftp.ini file and be sure that there is no path after filename.

(Note: The "Application Data" folder in Windows 2000 and in XP is a hidden folder. You will need to show all Hidden files/folders in your Windows Explorer settings.)

***INCORRECT***
[MySites]
FILENAME=C:\WINNT\Profiles\your-name\Application Data\Ipswitch\WS_FTP\Sites\original.ini

***CORRECT***
[MySites]
FILENAME=original.ini



If your sites do not exist in either original.ini or ws_ftp.ini, then you most likely created a folder to store your sites in. In this case, your sites will be stored in foldername.ini. For example, if you created a folder called WebSites in the Site Manager window, then your site information will be stored in websites.ini. If your sites are shared among other users (for example, you have a Shared Sites folder in your Site Manager), you will want to also check in the C:\ProgramData\Ipswitch\WS_FTP\Sites folder for a ws_ftp.ini file.


Once you have located your sites, you can then copy the Sites folder where they are stored to your new machine. 

• If any of your site profiles are configured to use SSL Certificates, you will also need to move your certificates.  See KB How do I migrate my SSL Certificates for instructions in moving your client SSL Certificates.
