In OpenEdge Development: ABL Reference and Pacific Application Server for OpenEdge: Application Migration and Development Guide, there are several places where the syntax is given to construct a URL for a particular transport. In all of these the default ROOT web app is somehow specified as "ROOT/" or "/". However, if the "ROOT/" option is used in a URL the service cannot by found by the ABL CONNECT statement.

In fact, choosing "ROOT/" is not allowed. A single slash implies the ROOT web app in a URL. There is a ROOT application located in the webapps directory, but its name cannot be specified in the URL.

- In the ABL Reference "CONNECT( ) method (Pacific Application Server)" reference, in Table 71: "PAS for OE connection parameters", the part of the -URL entry describing the relevant part of "web-path" says:

    /[web-app-name/|ROOT/|/]apsv
    Specifies the OE ABL Web application and ABL client (or Open Client)
    transport (apsv) to connect with, where web-app-name is the name of an
    OE ABL Web application other than the default (oeabl.war) and any other
    combination specifies a connection to the default OE ABL Web application

  The option "ROOT/" should be omitted.In the explanation below, the phrase:

    ... and any other combination, including no OE ABL
    Web application specification at all, specifies a connection to the default ROOT OE ABL
    Web application.

  Should be changed to:

    ... and a forward slash specifies a connection to the default ROOT OE ABL
    Web application.

  The same section also states:

    An ABL client connection to the default OE ABL Web application on the same PAS
    for OE instance can be represented by either one of the following URIs:
      • ./ROOT/apsv
      • .//apsv
      • ./apsv

  This should be changed to:

     An ABL client connection to the default OE ABL Web application on the same host can be
     represented by ./apsv.

- In Chapter 2, "ABL application code migration > Migrating client connections to PAS for OpenEdge", in the general text before the labeled subsections (p. 45 in the PDF), the relevant part of the syntax diagram says:

  [oeabl-web-application/]
    Specifies the OE ABL Web application to connect to using the following syntax:
    Syntax
    [web-app-name/|ROOT/|/]
    Specifies the OE ABL Web application, where web-app-name is the name of an OE
    ABL Web application other than the default, ROOT (oeabl.war). Any other combination,
    including no OE ABL Web application specification at all, specifies a connection to ROOT.

  The option "ROOT/" in the diagram should be omitted. The sentence beginning "Any other combination" should be changed to:

   A forward slash specifies the ROOT application.

- In the "Migrating AIA URLs to use the APSV transport" section (p. 47 in the PDF), the sentence:

    If the apsv URI is apsv, ROOT/apsv, or simply /, it is connecting to the default ROOT OE ABL
    Web application.

  Should be changed to:

    If the apsv URI is apsv or simply /, it is connecting to the default ROOT OE ABL
    Web application.

- In the "Migrating WSA URLs to use the SOAP transport" section (p. 47), the sentence:

    If the soap URI is soap, ROOT/soap, or simply /, it is connecting to the default ROOT OE ABL
    Web application.

  Should be changed to:

     If the soap URI is soap, or simply /, it is connecting to the default ROOT OE ABL
    Web application.

- In Chapter 7, "Programming ABL Client Applications", section "Connection URL syntax for the APSV transport" (p. 142), the syntax diagram:

    scheme://[username:passphrase@]host:port/[web-app-name/|ROOT/|/]apsv

  Should be changed to:

    scheme://[username:passphrase@]host:port/[web-app-name/|/]apsv

- In the explanation of the "[web-app-name/|ROOT/|/]apsv" part of the syntax diagram (p. 143), the header should be changed to:

    [web-app-name/|/]apsv

  In the explanation below, the phrase:

    ... and any other combination, including no OE ABL
    Web application specification at all, specifies a connection to the default ROOT OE ABL
    Web application.

  Should be changed to:

    ... and a forward slash specifies a connection to the default ROOT OE ABL
    Web application.

- The sentence with following box:

    An ABL client connection to the default OE ABL Web application on the same host can be
    represented by either one of the following URIs:
      ./ROOT/apsv
      .//apsv
      ./apsv

  Should be replaced by:

     An ABL client connection to the default OE ABL Web application on the same host can be
    represented by ./apsv.

As a general rule, always use a single forward slash to represent the ROOT web application in a URL. Apply this rule to Pacific Application Server URLs.

When using the PAS Application Migration and Development Guide, make the substitutions listed in the Cause section when reading the documentation on how to construct URLs.
