ABL errors passed back to Webservice client include a default error text "The adapter detected an internal application error.:"

In OpenEdge 12 if the ABL RETURN ERROR statement returns a custom error from a procedure running on a PAS instance to a webservice client, the response contains a default error string.

The custom error created by the RETURN ERROR statement is appended to the default error and included in the SOAP response.  For example in 12.2.16 the following ABL procedure returns a custom error:

// PassServerProc.p
DEFINE VARIABLE cError AS CHARACTER NO-UNDO.
cError = "#### This is my ERROR ####".
RETURN ERROR cError.

The SOAP response is:

<SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
   <SOAP-ENV:Header/>
   <SOAP-ENV:Body>
      <SOAP-ENV:Fault>
         <faultcode>SOAP-ENV:Server.Application</faultcode>
         <faultstring>An internal Web Service error occurred in the Web Services Adapter. (10902)</faultstring>
         <detail>
            <ns1:FaultDetail xmlns:ns1="urn:soap-fault:details">
               <errorMessage>The adapter detected an internal application error.: #### This is my ERROR ####</errorMessage>
               <requestID>f137a9ee-1ec6-4979-8af3-e0accab7e055</requestID>
            </ns1:FaultDetail>
         </detail>
      </SOAP-ENV:Fault>
   </SOAP-ENV:Body>
</SOAP-ENV:Envelope>

In the classic appserver and the old web services adapter the error only contained the custom string:

               <errorMessage>#### This is my ERROR ####</errorMessage>

Changing the 'serviceFaultLevel' property in the openedge.properties or the web service .props file has no affect on this behaviour.

The exact cause is not known at this time.

None at this time.
