The troubleshooting tools and sample programs are installed as part of the installation process for the Connect/Connect64 XE for ODBC and Progress DataDirect frr ODBC products. The README.txt file describes the product folders and files in detail.

The troubleshooting guide for Connect for ODBC is located at http://www.progress.com/products/datadirect-connect/odbc-drivers/odbc-developer-center/odbc-product-documentation.

With most ODBC driver products tools called example, demoodbc are shipped. These applications can be found in the "samples" folder just below the driver home directory.

The tool example will prompt for a ODBC Data Source Name, a userid and the corresponding password. It then attempts to establish the connection, and allows to execute SQL statements. To finish, do not enter a SQL statement and press ENTER.

The tool demoodbc requires the -uid, -pwd parameters and the ODBC Data Source Name to be provided on the command line and will try to select the records from the table EMP. The *.sql files in the same directory contain the DDL of this table which needs to be created before executing demoodbc.
demoodbc [-uid username] [-pwd password] [-xml] DSN.

Additionally, the Progress DataDirect Support Web site provides other diagnostic tools at http://www.progress.com/support-and-services/evaluation-support/download-resources/download-tools for troubleshooting. These tools are not shipped with the product.

Microsoft ODBC Test is a utility created by Microsoft that accompanies the Microsoft ODBC Software Development Kit. It is a more advanced tool which allows to call most ODBC API functions. It can be downloaded from: http://www.progress.com/support-and-services/evaluation-support/download-resources/download-tools There are 32-bit and 64 bit, ANSI and Unicode versions available of this utility.

Start the utility (either using a shortcut or by clicking on the "odbcte32.exe"/"odbct32w.exe" file)
Press CTRL+F or click on the "handshake" button. The 'Full Connect' window will pop up.
Select the ODBC data source from the list shown. Click OK.
If data source information is missing the driver Logon dialog box will be shown where e.g. the Username and Password can be entered. Click OK.
If the connection is successful, the lower output window will show the text "Successfully connected to DSN 'your datasource name'"
Enter a SQL statement in the upper half of the window: e.g. select * from EMP
Highlight the text of the statement that needs to be executed.
Press CTRL+E or click the "red exclamation point" button to execute the SQL Statement.
If the statement is successful, something like below will be shown in the lower window: SQLExecDirect: In: hstmt=#1 0x006A0078, szSqlStr=VALID, cbSqlStr=-3 Return: SQL_SUCCESS=0
To retrieve the resultset(s) on a SELECT SQL statement, press CTRL+R or click the "Get Data All" button. (This is the shortcut button directly to the right of the "red exclamation point.". The records will show up in the lower part of the window.
If SQL_ERROR=-1 is returned in the lower part of the window, and the error is not shown, click the 'Error Message' shortcut button to retrieve the exact error message. (This is the button marked "Err" four buttons to the right of the "red exclamation button.")
