Password reset not displaying new password
Hello, got a 4.4.2117 site, and it seems the 'reset password' feature is not working. Going to admin->users->edit user->reset password. Prompt is displayed asking 'Are you sure' but when hitting 'ok' nothing happens. Typically I'd see a yellow box with random chars?
Did you ever find an answer to this? I've getting the same thing in Sitefinity 5.1.3210.0 and have tried IE9 and Chrome21 but never get the popup box to type in a new password.
Hi there,
Please perform following steps:
1. Browse to Administration > Settings > Advanced.
2. Expand Security > Membership Providers > Default > Parameters
3. Select enablePasswordReset and make sure under Value it is set to true.
4. Save changes and reset the app_pool
If you want the reset password to send and email with password as well then:
5. Select recoveryMailAddress under parameter and make sure Value field has an email address.
6. Save changes and reset the app_pool again.
Please try the above steps and hope it helps you,
Regards,
Nimit
Hello,
I am also experiencing this issue on our Sitefinity 4.4 site (IE9). Our settings are correct as far as I can tell (enablePasswordReset = true), but we do not want email to be sent on password reset, so the mail settings are unset. On the User details page, the prompt to confirm password change works, but then the password itself is not displayed as expected. Screencast showing settings and behavior here: http://screencast.com/t/Km9M0l8o8
(After changing these settings from the default "false" to "true," our server appPool was reset and the site was restarted.)
Am I missing another setting somewhere? Is there a way to repair this issue?
Thanks!
Amy
Hello,
Would it be possible to do the following: Go to App_Data/Sitefinity/Logs, delete the files, reproduce the error and attach the generate file. If there is some underlying problem, it will be noted there.
Thank you in advance.
Di you find a resolution to this problem? I am having the same issue as the screen cast in this thread. When I reset a user's password from the Administration / Users module, the new password is not visible on the screen.
Hi,
The recoveryMailAddress should be configured, even if you do not send an email:http://screencast.com/t/FdTfcRN0OMd. If it is left empty, the password reset will fail. After you enter an email and restart, the new password will be generated and shown.
Just leaving a closing note for myself. I found that my reset password didn't work because I had users under the 3.7 migration provider. So I found a script that moves the user over to the default provider and the reset functionality works. Just a tip.
Hi,
Thank you for sharing your fix with the community, it will definitely be helpful to someone in the same situation.
