Space, the final frontier

Space, the final frontier

This talk, given at the Americas PUG Challenge Conference in May 2012, explores how the OpenEdge RDBMS finds and allocates storage space for the various things you can put into a database. We also examine all of the various space allocation related configuration parameters, what they do, how they work, and how to set their values. We will take a look at area and extent types, allocation clusters, create limit, toss limit, maximum rows per block, indexes and so on, as well as the before-image log and after-image journals.
