What does "recv failed" means in DataDirect error

I got an error message containing this statement, but I cannot find anywhere in the KBase what it means.

The full error message is this :

java.sql.SQLException: [DataDirect][OpenEdge JDBC Driver]Software caused connection abort: recv failed.

This happened when trying to update a blod field using a SQL Statement with DataDirect.

Its a database crash. The following KB article explains dos and donts with respect to CLOB/BLOB datatypes.
