What is the 15194 Progress message?

Clarifying Information

Error Message	(15194) Database activity did not finish before the shutdown timeout expired so the database is performing an immediate shutdown.

Cause

Database shutdown has exceeded either the user defined shutdown time using the newly added option to proshut:
-shutdownTimeout

or the default value of -shutdownTimeout (10 minutes) has been exceeded.

Resolution

The 15194 message is informational. It let's the DBA know that we exceeded the defined or default shutdown time.

There is a new parameter in 10.2B, -shutdownTimeout, which has a default of 10 minutes. After ten minutes (or the user defined value) the database will kill all remaining users and shutdown.
