Article Number000180571
EnvironmentProduct: OpenEdge
Version: 11.5 and later
OS: All supported platforms
Other: AEE RDBMS, ENT RDBMS
Question/Problem Description
Replication Server (RPLS) fails to connect to the Replication Agent (RPLA) when the Advanced Enterprise License is installed on one end (primary source server) and the Enterprise Database on the other end (secondary target server)
RPLS cannot connect to RPLA with error 13257 when the OE RDBMS Adv Enterprise Edition license is installed on only one of the replication machines.
Steps to Reproduce
Clarifying Information
Error Message(13257) The RDBMS license on the Source machine does not match the RDBMS license on the Target machine.
(15712) Unable to connect to agent agent1 on host/address .
(10700) The Fathom Replication Agent agent1 is being terminated.
(10697) The Fathom Replication Server was unable to reconnect to agent agent1. Recovery for this agent will not be performed.
(10698) The Fathom Replication Server will shutdown but the source database will remain active.
(10505) The Fathom Replication Server is ending.
Defect NumberEnhancement PSC00354367
Enhancement Number
Cause
Code has not been updated to take into account the Advanced Enterprise License (grouped license) which includes the RDBMS Enterprise License.
Resolution
Upgrade to OpenEdge 11.7 where the check in database likeness for database licenses used for the source and target databases, the Adv Enterprise DB and Enterprise DB licenses are treated equally.

Since replication can only run from Enterprise to Enterprise database or Workgroup to Workgroup database, the license check will still trigger when a WorkGroup database is not on both the source and target machines and fail the RPLS to RPLA connection.

Workaround
Only if the Enterprise Database License and OpenEdge Replication Plus were previously fully installed and none of the additional licenses are needed on the server, the progress.cfg containing the AEE license can be copied across from the primary to the secondary server.

Otherwise, the Advanced Enterprise License must be installed on the secondary target server.  Refer to Article How to upgrade Enterprise DB to Advanced Enterprise DB ?
