Starting from Progress 9.1B, PROBKUP can create backup volumes (files) on disk that are larger than 2Gb, if large files are supported by the operating system and the file system to which the backup files are directed. Versions earlier than Progress 9.1B will not create backup volumes larger than 2Gb. The Progress database does not have to be large files enabled in order to achieve this. The limitation of file size is entirely filesystem, disk capacity or user limit related.
The Linux Operating System is an exception: on this platform, the 2Gb limit on PROBKUP was lifted from OpenEdge 10 and later.
The size of the PROBKUP volumes can be controlled with the use of the -vs parameter. For further information, please refer to article 000010232
