Application Virtualization software support and certification policies:

Application Virtualization Software such as Citrix Metaframe, Citrix Presentation Server, HOBLink, VMware, and MS Windows Terminal Server are products that provide an abstraction layer that decouples the physical hardware from the "guest‟ operating system to deliver greater IT resource utilization and flexibility.

Progress OpenEdge provides full support with Application Software environments. The versions noted on the list below are minimum versions and indicate support for the entire “family” of releases within the version. For example:
Support for “Citrix XenApp 6.0” extends to all Version 6.x releases of XenApp and is not limited specifically to Version 6.0. With this in mind, here are the supported vendors and versions of virtualization technologies:

OpenEdge 10.X
  •  Citrix MetaFrame XPe
  •  Citrix MetaFrame v 1.8 for Win2K
  •  Citrix XenServer Virtualization (formally known as XenSource) (4.1 & 5.5 and 6.2)
  • Windows Terminal Server (2003R2 & 2008)
  • Citrix Presentation Server (3.0 & 4.0 MS Windows)
  • Citrix XenApp 5.0 (10.1C+)
  • Citrix XenApp 6.0 (10.1C+)
  • Citrix XenApp 7.5 (10.2B+)
  • VMware Workstation 5
  • VMware ESX Server 2.5 and above
  • VMware ESX 3.0.2, 3.5, 4.0
  • Solaris Zones/Containers
  • HOBLink (MS Windows)
  • IBM Virtual I/O Server for AIX
  • HP Itanium Virtualization
  • Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008

OpenEdge 11.x
  •  Citrix MetaFrame XPe
  •  Citrix XenServer Virtualization (formally known as XenSource) (4.1, 5.5, 5.6 and 6.2)
  •  Windows Terminal Server (2003R2)
  •  Citrix Presentation Server (3.0 & 4.0 MS Windows)
  •  Citrix XenApp 5.x
  •  Citrix XenApp 6.x
  •  Citrix XenApp 7.x (OpenEdge 11.3.2 and later)
  •  VMware Workstation 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
  •  VMware ESX/ESXi 3.5
  •  VMware vSphere v4.x (ESX 4.x, ESXi 4.x)
  •  VMware vSphere v5.x (ESX 5.x, ESXi 5.x)
  •  VMware vSphere v6.x (ESXi 6.x)
  •  Solaris Zones/Containers
  •  HOBLink (MS Windows)
  •  IBM Logical Partitions for AIX
  •  HP Itanium Virtualization
  •  Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 *
  •  Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 *

* Due to manner in which Hyper-V technology manages shared memory, Progress Software recommends that extensive performance testing be carried out, possibly with the vendor's engagement prior to production deployment, to verify that there is not a negative performance impact on OpenEdge applications.

For the most current information please reference the Product Availability Guide for the version of OpenEdge being used.

OpenEdge 12.x

Unless explicitly stated, Progress supports OpenEdge on Operating Systems listed in the Product Availability Guide (https://docs.progress.com/bundle/OpenEdge-12-Product-Availability-Guide/resource/OpenEdge-12-Product-Availability-Guide.pdf ), irrespective of any given cloud or virtualization technology. In case of any issue, the same problem should be reproducible on a standard OS installation to get support in line with the
customer’s support agreement, i.e., you must ensure that changes/customizations of the cloud
virtualization platform aren't causing the issue.
