Steps to Reproduce
Clarifying Information
HP-UX 11i Version 1.5 (B.11.20) includes Aries: HP's transparent binary compatibility solution for HP-UX/PA-RISC applications on HP-UX/Itanium platforms. Aries allows PA-RISC applications written for HP-UX releases up to (and including) HP-UX 11i (B.11.11) to run on Itanium-based systems running HP-UX 11i Version 1.5 (B.11.20). Aries supports both 32-bit and 64-bit PA-RISC applications.

PA-RISC binaries are any binaries provided by Progress software that are not built on an Itanium system. When Itanium operating system detects the use of PA-RISC binaries it automatically starts the Aries emulator to support them.
Because the compatibiltiy layer is transparent, most people will not realize they are using it.

The HP-UX Itanium emulation mode for supporting HP-UX PA-RISC binaries is not supported by Progress Software.

Anyone running this configuration should trade in the licenses for HP-UX on PA-RISC for licenses for HP-UX on Itanium.

There is technically nothing to prevent installling the OpenEdge for PA-RISC license on an Itanium machine. However performance is likely going to suffer, and instabilities will emerge when the system is under heavly load.
For these reasons, this configuration was not certified for use with OpenEdge.

In addition the advice from HP regarding PA-RISC emulation under HP-Itanium is to STRONGLY encourage our partners to adopt native HP-UX Itanium binaries. (First introduced with OpenEdge 10.0B)

Starting with OpenEdge 11.3, Progress dropped support for HP-UX on PA-RISC.
